Nursery

Teacher: Miss Studwick
Nursery Nurse: Mrs Bhatti
This is the start of our journey at school and it should be a safe, caring and nurturing environment which is what Orchard Primary School Nursery provides.

We develop our little pupil’s minds to see, talk about and question the world around them and we approach this with inside and out activities. Learning in the Early Years begins with social interaction with peers and adults. Learning to play and share and to develop our individuality and independence.

We carefully plan activities every day in each of the areas of learning to encourage, stimulate and challenge our Nursery children.

As well as activities taking place in the classroom and in our outdoor area, the children also take part in Forest School, computing in the ICT Suite, PE and cooking.

To find out more about our class and what activities we have been undertaking on a daily basis then please take a look at the details below. This page will be regularly updated with new material so please keep checking back for new information.

Stay and Learn Maths

In Nursery we invited the parents to join us for Stay and Learn morning. The focus was maths. The children showed the parents how good they are at counting in sequence to 10 and 20, recognising numbers 0-10 and we even asked some of the parents to help us. They held up some jumbled number cards and the children had to move them into the correct order!

After this parents worked with their child at the different activities which included ordering numerals, making a gingerbread man out of 2d shapes, counting out buttons for the gingerbread man and painting numerals.

The parents got the opportunity to join in with some number rhymes such as five little ducks, five currant buns and 12345 once I caught a fish alive. They also looked through their child's learning journey book.

It was a great morning learning lots of maths!

Forest School

Nursery class has been taking part in Forest School for about 5 weeks now and they know exactly what to do. They enjoy all aspects of 'MUD. It is a wonderful opportunity to experiment and play with nature's finest product and when you are in Nursery that is how they experience life through their senses.
