Teachers: Miss Sharma
Mornings start with us working hard in phonics. In Year 2, we are now learning a variety of spelling rules and we are trying hard to use these in our writing. We then have our English lessons and we are reading a sequence book from Traction Man called ‘Traction Man Meets Turbo Dog’. Before our favourite time of the day lunch, we also learn Maths and Guided reading.
In the afternoons we follow a creative curriculum based on a topic each half term, where we find out the answers to all of the questions we may have. During the Autumn term we have been looking at the United Kingdom and the surrounded seas and we have also learnt about Florence Nightingale.
To find out more about our class and what activities we have been undertaking on a daily basis then please take a look at the details below. This page will be regularly updated with new material so please keep checking back for new information.

Year 2 had fun taking part in Sports Day and gave it their all in the races.
As good global citizens Year 2 took part in a 3k sponsored walk around Sidcup.
It took us just under one hour to complete and the children raised a whopping £189.
Below is a bit of background of the Project
There are currently 10.2 million children in Nigeria out of school. Sending a child to a community school requires funds for uniform, materials, lunch and PTA/school levy fees. Many children are forced to drop out of school because their families cannot afford to keep them in school. In 2015 VSO Nigeria launched an in-country scheme to fundraise to help tackle this nationwide problem. At the moment there are volunteers stationed in communities across Nigeria trying to raise funds to send children back to school. With the help of their UK counterparts and returned volunteers (International Citizen Service volunteers) VSO Nigeria believes they can send even more children back to school by the end of 2017.
The aim of the project is to involve UK primary schools in raising awareness and funds to send children in Nigeria back to school.
We went on a trip to London Zoo to learn about lifecycles. This is a perfect place to discover how a variety of different animals, grow, develop and produce offspring. We learnt all about a butterfly's lifecycle and acted out the different stages.as well as touching real animal skins and artefacts.
As part of 'The Power of Reading', Year 2 has been reading the book 'Traction Man' by Mini Grey. The character patrols the house he lives in. He is quite a strong versatile individual who has an outfit for all occasions but life takes a twist to test him.
Year 2, had to describe what Traction Man smelt, saw, touched or felt using a whole sentence.
Year 2 came to school dressed as 'Super Heroes'.
This is part of their topic for the term. As well as dressing up they also spent the day taking part in activities linked to the topic.
