Throughout the year we base our learning around a topic.
The three topics for the year and the linked texts are:
Chocolate and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
Recycling and The Iron Man,
What a Wonderful World and Tales Told in Tents and Mouse, Bird, Snake, Wolf.
As Year 4 is such a key year, we are encouraged to be responsible for our own learning and behaviour. Our key rule is 'Respect' - for ourselves, our classmates, adults in the school, equipment and our class and school environment.
Our teachers hope that by the end of the year we will be confident, independent and enthusiastic learners, ready to face the challenges and fun in Year 5.

As part of our chocolate topic, year 4 went on a trip to The Chocolate Museum in Brixton. We learned about how cocoa is farmed and made into chocolate and which countries produce and consume the most chocolate. We had fun tasting different varieties of chocolate and trying to guess which flavour combinations were in the chocolate. The highlight of the trip was making chocolate fudge and ganache lollipops which we dipped in melted chocolate and covered in sprinkles.
This is what some of year 4 had to say:
Rihanna said " I enjoyed making chocolate because it was messy and also it was fun."
Sara "My favourite part was making chocolate."
Finley said " I would recommend this trip to other people because it's fun, you get to learn stuff about chocolate and even more exciting, you get to taste chocolate and make chocolate."
Melodi would recommend this trip because " it is the best place I've been."
And finally Waiz sums it all up nicely "it is like chocolate heaven."
As part of their chocolate topic, year 4 had a Maya day. They wore headdresses that they had made and some children dressed up.
The Maya civilisation used masks for lots of different events and the children made their own mosaic masks.
The Maya loved chocolate and made chocolate drinks that the noble enjoyed. Year 4 made hot chocolate drinks and many were brave enough to try it as the Maya would have drank it, with chilli!
They also played the Maya ball game of Pok a tok, where players could only move the ball using their elbows and hips. They didn't follow the rules entirely though as the Maya would have decapitated the captain of the losing team!
