In Mrs Foy's Science Club, they of course like to experiment with a variety of scientific investigations. Well who would have guessed that 'Skittles' could be used?
Skittles contain FD&C dyes, sugar and other substances. So when you place different colours on a plate, then you add some water to cover the Skittles, an amazing reaction happens.
Each colour bleeds out towards the centre of the plate and remains in its own path making the most wonderful kaleidoscope of colours. This experiment could be used to measure which colour moves the fastest and create different patterns to see if the colours remain pure.
But the best part of this experiment is, you get to eat the remaining Skittles! That's one of the reasons why science is so much fun.
Remember if you wish to sign up to Science Club next term, the spaces go very quickly.
The PTA held a Skoot 'n' Skate session on Friday after school. All year groups could spend the afternoon either on their scooters or their skates zooming around the junior playground.
It is a sociable way to spend the afternoon, interacting with all age groups in a safe environment.
All money raised will be used to benefit Orchard pupils.
As you are all aware, we held a Harvest Festival Assembly to gather food and toiletries for our local food bank.
Mr Cowley took the school council members to the New Community Church off Station Road, Sidcup to hand over all the items which were kindly donated by our families and staff.
Many people in our communities sometimes find themselves in unexpected circumstances which leaves them struggling to put food on the table. Well at New Community Church you can recieve three days of emergency food via vouchers which can be remeeded for food parcels.
On arrival, the food bank system was explained to the children. Then a question and answer session with many practicable questions put forward to the staff by our pupils.
The Foodbank at New Community is open on Mondays 11:00 - 13:00 (except Bank Holidays) and Tuesdays 12:30 - 15:00
If you wish to donate food or recieve a helping hand then follow the link below for more information.
Orchard Primary welcomed the harvest season by coming together to gather food, tolietries and other house-hold items for our local food bank.
This year, the parents & pupils donated an amazing amount of goods which will be distributed to families in our community who need an extra hand. Mr Cowley baked a Harvest loaf which was then sliced and shared with each class, which went down a treat.
All our parents & carers were invited to the Harvest Festival Assembly to join in with our celebrations and to hear each class sing their song.
Thank you for your generosity.
We have our newly appointed Junior Road Safety Officers from Year 5, who went on a training session at the civic offices in Bexleyheath.
Their role is to organise road safety assemblies, competitions and other activities. As the evenings are becoming darker much sooner, our JRSO are preparing to advise Orchard pupils on how to See and Be Seen.
